Family YMCA AQUATIC SAFETY ALERT
In an effort to continually enhance our aquatic safety we are reminding our membership and program participants about our rules and regulations regarding our pools.
GENERAL RULES (WHICH APPLY TO ALL POOLS)
- Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult (18+) in the water within arms length.
- Swimmers 16 and under must be given a swim test. Green bands are permitted to swim anywhere within the pool. Yellow bands are restricted to the shallow end of the pool. Red bands are restricted to the shallow end of the pool accompanied by an adult within arms length in the water.
- Only U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets are permitted in the shallow end; children wearing U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets must be accompanied by an adult (18+) in the water within arms length
- All members must wear a swim suit. Cut offs, gym shorts, jeans, etc. are prohibited.
TOP 5 RULES PER POOL
Program Pool
- Starting blocks are for swim team and swim lessons only.
- Lap lanes are for lap swim only.
- Aqua Fitness Equipment including large noodles are for aqua fitness class use only.
- Small noodles are permitted in the Program Pool only.
- Swimmers with red and yellow bands are prohibited in the deep end (marked by the safety line).
Waterpark
- Swimmers with red and yellow bands are prohibited from the deeper end including the channel (marked by the safety line).
- Flotation devices (including noodles and kickboards) are prohibited.
- Masks and snorkels are prohibited.
- All children with red and yellow bands must be accompanied by an adult (18+) within arms length in the channel and bubble bench.
- Riders for the slide must be at least 48 inches

FAMILY YMCA FULL POOL RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult (18+) in the water within arms length.
- Swimmers 16 and under must be given a swim test. Green bands are permitted to swim anywhere within the pool. Yellow bands are restricted to the shallow end of the pool. Red bands are restricted to the shallow end of the pool accompanied by an adult within arms length in the water.
- Only U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets are permitted in the shallow end; children wearing U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets must be accompanied by an adult (18+) in the water within arms length.
- All members must wear a swim suit. Cut offs, gym shorts, jeans, etc. are prohibited.
- All patrons must take a soap shower before entering the water.
- Running, rough play, or pushing others into the water is prohibited.
- Babies and children not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper and plastic outer pant while in the water. Changing of diapers on the pool deck or in the pool area is prohibited.
- Breathe holding, underwater games, and prolonged underwater swimming is prohibited.
- Ladders and steps are for entering and exiting only.
- Lifeguards may not have extensive conversations with members while guarding in the chair. Members may not climb in, on, or around lifeguard chairs.
- No hanging on lap lanes or safety lines.
- Kickboards, bar bells, pull buoys, and flippers are for lap swimming and instructional use only.
- No riding on top of another’s shoulders or tossing others in the pool.
- At the discretion of the lifeguard, small toys such as diving rings and nerf balls are permitted.
- Lifeguards communicate with whistles: one short blast is to get swimmers attention; one long blast is used to clear the pool.
- Loud, rude, or vulgar language will not be tolerated.
- Glass containers are prohibited.
- Food and drink are prohibited on the pool deck including gum and candy (except for the outdoor pool deck).
- Smoking and alcoholic beverages are prohibited on YMCA property.
- Diving is only permitted in water at least 9 feet deep.
- Back dives, flips, back jumps and handstands from the side are prohibited.
- During severe weather warnings (thunderstorm and tornado), the indoor pools will be closed through the weather warning alert.
- A lifeguard must be present at all times on the pool deck.
- First Aid is located in the lifeguard office. Please see lifeguard if first aid is needed.
- The lifeguard on duty reserves the authority to clear the pool to do safety checks.
- The YMCA reserves the authority to close sections of the pool due to maintenance or staff limitations.
