THIS MONTH'S ACTIVITIES

Like the Starfish Story
Recently we wrote about Harmony Garden's donation of 200 tickets to the Women's Crosstown Shootout at Xavier. One of our CincyAfterSchool students wrote a thank you to Harmony Gardens stating how good she felt because her mom took a day off from work to attend this outing as a family. That's 40 Assets in action - Community Values Youth; Parent Involvement; Youth Programs; and more. It was just a basketball game, but it mattered to this family.

Youth Leaders on the Move
Jana Nattermann took five students from Hughes Center High School to a Youth Agenda conference in Columbus, to address the question, "What should the state government do to make sure that you and your classmates achieve economic and educational success in the next five years?" 200 students from across the state attended and will take home a revised Youth Agenda to candidates for county commissioner, state representative, state senator and Congress. Chyna, a Junior commented: "Today was an inspiring experience for me because I never thought I would have a day to be a leader and represent a city. I met important people and had a discussion with other schools. It was good to know that I can make a difference. I'm a youth my voice is being heard and I'm a part of a group that makes changes for the youth."

Happy Holidays to All!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and Chanukah and Kwanza... everywhere we go... not only with the festive songs on the radio but the snow on the ground and schools getting ready to close. All of us at Community Services wish that you and your family wonderful holidays!
