GET WHITE HOT Green tea grabs all the headlines as a
tumor-taming brew, but the white kind surpasses it at preventing colon cancer.
When researchers at Oregon State University's Linus Pauling Institute tested the
two teas' abilities to block colon-polyp growth, the blanc beverage was about
10 percent more effective. In fact, it stopped polyps as effectively as sulindac,
a powerful anti-inflammatory drug. And while prescription anti-inflammatories
can cause internal bleeding and ulcers, "tea is pretty much guaranteed not
to cause side effects," says Gayle Orner, Ph.D., the study's lead author.
(Men's Health) DID YOU KNOW that our bodies were designed to
be active? Fit people have more energy than inactive people, because they're better
able to convert the food they eat and the air they breathe into fuel for the body.
Being active also strengthens your heart - allowing you to pump more oxygen to
your muscles. (America on the Move) DENTAL PLAQUE PROBLEM Not brushing
your teeth every day may cause more damage than you realize. U.S. researchers
found that germs breeding in dental plaque increase the risk of death, especially
in the elderly, as they can travel to the lungs and cause pneumonia. All adults
should be brushing their teeth regularly, but it is especially important that
the elderly are monitored for proper dental hygiene it could save their
life. (LifeScript)
