DID YOU KNOW that whole grain foods may lower the risk
of stroke, diabetes and heart disease? Choose breads, cereals and pasta listing
"whole grain" as a primary ingredient. Eat at least 3 ounces daily -
an average slice of bread or cup of cereal is about an ounce. PROTECTION
FOR YOUR EYES If your eyes are looking for protection from cataracts, they
just might find it in a healthy diet. Dark leafy greens, known for being nutrient-rich,
are also rich in antioxidants specifically lutein and zeaxanthin. These
two funny-sounding compounds are actually carotenoids, a group of phytochemicals
found in fruits and vegetables that act both as pigments and as disease fighters.
New research from Ohio State University in Columbus confirms that eating a diet
rich in dark leafy greens, such as broccoli, spinach and kale, can help prevent
cataracts in aging eyes. (LifeScript) DID YOU KNOW that sports
drinks are not better than water during exercise? The high-energy referred to
by most sports drinks is often provided by higher calories. Unless you are working
out more than two hours at a time, water is sufficient but very important to keep
you hydrated.
