| | SLEEP
AND YOUR HEALTH by Allen Tabe
Some of us seem to breeze through
life effortlessly on just a few hours of sleep a night, while others can barely
function without a full eight hours. But is there a certain number of hours of
sleep required for optimal health? And is there a maximum number of hours, beyond
which excessive sleep becomes hurtful to your health? When it comes to
preventing diabetes, at least, research is now suggesting that between 7 and 8
hours of sleep per night is the ideal. A Boston University study of adults, over
50, finds that sleeping either less than six hours or more than nine hours a night
can increase a person's risk of developing diabetes and other blood glucose disorders.
The study's authors press for further research to identify the exact link between
sleep and diabetes, but conclude that the standard 7 hours minimum is ideal for
a variety of health reasons. Every person's sleep need may differ, BUT,
going to bed at a regular time, and your body waking up after a consistant sleep
time, can be your best judge as to what amount is right for you. For
