YMCA and their communities in South Asia, particularly those in Sri Lanka and India, were severely affected by the terrible tsunami tragedies of December 26, 2004. Reports in the region indicate that some YMCA staff and families have lost loved ones and that there has been significant damage to facilities, including the complete devastation of at least one YMCA at Komara on the Sri Lankan coast. As an organization the International Committee felt it was important to show our support and respond to the tragedy. The International Committee spearheaded a campaign to raise funds to help with the relief efforts. YMCA of Greater Cincinnati staff members personally gave $2,000 to support the efforts.
